Leaf fundraises to help young people and adults living in Dorset and Hampshire affected with a blood cancer who are receiving treatment or who have needs since being discharged from hospital.
Holidays: – we provide holidays to Center Parcs (Longleat) for patients and their families. Center Parcs has proved to be an ideal location for young families; they can enjoy quality time together with activities to suit all ages. Center Parcs has a relaxed environment; self catering seems to suit most families, whilst also having plenty of other dining options. For those patients that are not well enough to take part in activities it has still proved to be very beneficial for the whole family, its gives them time to be together, many families miss out on this due to the fact that the patient may spend many months in hospital. Leaf will pay for 2 adults and up to 5 children 0-16, (immediate family members).
Leaf also offer short breaks at The FJB group of hotels. The Haven, Sandbanks Hotel & Harbour Heights. As the hotels are very local this may suit a blood cancer patient that still has to be close to the hospital. A break at one of these luxury hotels is ideal for a couple to spend some quality time together, lovely walks along award winning beaches, great food, relaxing lounge areas, and spa treatments, leaving the everyday worries behind. Leaf will pay for 2 adults and up to 2 children 0-16, (immediate family members).
A member of the Leaf team will visit the patient/family to go through a very informal interview to establish how Leaf can help. This will then be discussed at the next monthly meeting and a decision will be made as to what help we will provide.
Help at home: – this comes in a variety of options as no two patient’s needs are the same, cleaning, shopping, meals, dog walking, transport etc etc…. A member of the Leaf team will visit the patient and go thought a very informal interview to establish how Leaf can help. This will then be discussed at the next monthly meeting.
Dorset Cancer Centre: – equipment for the wards, grants of up to £400 for a member of the medical team to help them gain more knowledge on blood cancers.
All requests to be made in writing to include full course details, costs, Inc travel, and equipment requests must state how the equipment will benefit the hospital, medical teams and the patients. All requests must be sent to the charities registered address or via email.
With all the above Leaf will discuss every request at our monthly board meetings and will be in touch with every applicant to let them know the outcome within 28 days of the meeting.
Upon a decision being made of the above care offered, this will be reviewed every 3 months.
Leaf provides emotional and practical support and cannot offer any financial grants.
